Introductury

This romantic drama is a untraditional love story that proves how "Love can overcome any barrier"  as well as how love is bigger than any other feeling, temptation, or issue.  The book is a novel that provides knowledge about love, patience, persistence, compassion, and much more.  A librarian in Chicago leads an abnormal life skipping through his destination and leaping back to his past as he finds the love of his life in one of his fascinating future adventures.  While Ms. Abshire is only only six she meets her fiance but what do you do if your only six and your soul mate stands before you?  In this situation you wait "Ten minutes, ten days. A month." That is what Clare Abshire did up until she meet her wonderful Henry DeTamble in the present.  While time passed Clare would eagerly wait for Henry to come to her and with many visits they both knew they were ment to be.

 Characters:

In this fascinating love story there are many characters that contribute to this novel.

Henry DeTamble:  The son of Annette Robinson and Richard Detamble grew up to be 6'1" with brown honey eyes and dark hair.  He also maintains a nice phiysical appearance by running every morning for passion.  Henry is a very fastidious person and cares much about appearance but isn't a well organized person.  While in college he majored in English literature, and can speak fluent French and German.  As well as languages and poetry Henry also was introduced to drugs in college.

Setting:

A Chicago Librarian with a gene that causes amazing time traveling takes this novel to many parts of Chicago Illinois during 1967 all the way through 2053 when death was the only thing that could separate the wonderful love of two passionate individuals.

Point Of View:

On the novel"s first page Clare declares, "I wait for Henry."  The two unseperable  protagonists point of view is first person view. This allows up to see beyond just Henry thoughts, we also see what Clare feels and  sees.

Clare Abshire:  Growing up in South Haven, Michigan Clare meet Henry at age of six.  Clare was very gorgeous and had the hands of an artist that could impress Michelangelo himself .  Clare was a very fascinating individual full of patience and many other virtues.  She was a very dedicated, determined, and enthusiastic person.

Alba:  While Clare and Henry shared their unconditional love for each other the best thing in their lives was so spontaneously produced, their daughter Alba.  Alba was inherited all the great features of her two loving parents.  She was very intelligent, beautiful, and outgoing young child.  She was also full of talent that she had inherited from her father's parents musicians and extremely beautiful just like her mother in which she also inherited art.  Although she was inherited all these amazing traits she had also inherited the gene's of her father in which now make her a time traveler as well.

Gomez:  Gomez was the definition of a true friend.  Staying faithful and truthful throughout the whole novel. He kept Henry's secret safe and shared their happiness and triumph.Gomez also had different levels of being faithful however, though engaged and at one point married with Clare's best friend Charisse he is in love with Clare. At one point in the novel after Henry death, this part of him shines a bit more clearly as he tries to seduce Clare. Fortunately, this is only a small portion of his wide range personality. Gomez is an amazing friend and as well as father at one point. With his blond hair and tall body structure, he is described as very handsome man.

Charisse: Clare's best friend. The duo met during college where a beautiful friendship began. She is described as outspoken and friendly. Dating and somewhere in the novel she is married to Gomez. Charisse is very aware that Gomez has feelings for Clare, but believe that Clare's and her friendship will never allow anything to happen between them. Charisse grows to have four children.

Dr. Kendrick (David): Dr. Kendrick is the scientist and doctor take tries with every ounce of knowledge he possess to help Henry. He diagnoses Henry and Alba with their name for their special genes as Chrono-Displacement. He fights for a cure for what Henry refers to as a disease to his time traveling.

Richard DeTamble(Henry's dad): Henry's dad is a difficult character to cope with. The times that he is mentioned he seems like a very angry man that is frustrated with world because of his unfortunate life. In the beginning of the novel Richard is an alcoholic and has very poor judgment. As the book progresses however, we see him grow as he moves forward and sees a better future for himself and those who surround him.

Theme

I see two clear themes that play throughout the entire novel. One of them is definitely more significant to the novel's understanding and that is love. The first theme would be:

"Love can overcome any boundaries"

The second would be:

"Patience is amazing virtue"

"It's dark now and I am very tired. I love you, always. Time is nothing." Both of these themes are relevant to the characters lives and their ways of living. The first explains how true love can really move a person and keep them alive. Patience is something that everyone should have. In this novel we see Clare as a portrait of patience. She waits patiently for Henry's return anxious of when it might be and how it will be.

 Major Conflicts

Henry vs. Self: Henry since the beginning of the story sees himself as a monster that doesn't belong. Throughout the story we see him battle with himself as life takes turns that end up horribly. Henry has to experience making Clare not have a baby for some time, because of time traveling. Having his only child be a time traveler. Also he is troubled by the way he sees things happen without being able to do much.
